Jersey Lourdes Pilgrimage 2024
2024 Details to be confirmed
The Sanctuary’s theme for 2022, 2023 and 2024
“Go and tell the priests to build a chapel here and that
people should come in procession”
Since the Oblates left Jersey a small group of parishioners have organised the Jersey element of the Oblate Pilgrimage to Lourdes. We will be leaving Jersey on Saturday 16 September and will return on Sunday 24 September. The price this year is £950 sharing and £240 single supplement. If necessary we can arrange to set up a standing order to help you with payments.
You need to be able to get on and off the coach unaided and if you have any problem walking long distances it is simple to hire a mobility scooter. Alternatively, you could come with a friend or family member to push a wheelchair, which can be brought with you or hired in Lourdes. Due to Covid you will also need to provide details of your travel insurance.
We already have some bookings, so if you are interested in joining us, if you have any questions or concerns about whether the trip will meet your expectations, or for more information please speak to a member of the team.
To enquire about booking please contact Deanna Greene on 00 44 1534 638973 or email deannagreene49@gmail.com
If you have never joined us before you may be interested to learn a little more about how we travel and how we spend our time in Lourdes. While there we join with Oblate Pilgrimage Groups from Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales and we can participate in a full programme with them. In addition to this we try, time permitting, to spend an afternoon in the mountains.
About the Jersey Lourdes Pilgrimage 2023
Joining with the Anglo Irish Oblates of Mary Immaculate who ministered to us in Jersey for so many years
We travel direct from Jersey by boat and coach with air conditioning and an on-board toilet making overnight stops at St Palais sur Mer on the way down south and again on the return journey. This year we arrive in Lourdes on the same day as the main Dublin group.
The Oblate programme involves us in an Opening Mass, a closing Thanksgiving and Missioning Service, Mass of Anointing, Mass at the Grotto, a Reconciliation Service, following the Stations of the Cross, plus the Eucharistic and Torchlight Processions but we still find time to spend at leisure in the cafes and shops around the Sanctuary. Depending on the Oblate programme we may also be able to attend an International Mass in the Pius X Underground Basilica.
We stay at a hotel just a few minutes’ walk from the Domain but do not be lulled into a false sense of security, the Domain has a large expanse and distances can be a challenge for some people.
In Lourdes we stay at the Hotel Sainte Rose with full board from 17 to 23 September, we have half board at Hotel de la Plage in St Palais sur Mer and stop at convenient Airs along the motorway, where you can purchase a snack for lunch when we are travelling between hotels.
Below you can see a group photo from around 1984 and one from our pilgrimage in 2019, a span of approximately 35 years. Before that the French O.M.I.s from St Thomas and St Matthieu used to take pilgrim groups to Lourdes, so you can see it is a long-standing tradition.
